January 8 - The Liberation of Karlovo and Stryama Valley
On January 8, 1878 the Lovech-Sevlievo Detachment, later called Troyanski Detachment, under the command of Lieutenant General Pavel P. Kartsov, under extremely difficult conditions: winter storms, frosts and fierce fights, crossed the Troyan Pass and liberated Karlovo and Stryama Valley. General Kartsov and his staff were stationed in the Pulevs house in Karlovo.
On this day, the liberation is celebrated by laying flowers before the monument of General P. Kartsov and the memorial plaque in front of Pulevs house.
